How to setup a filter in uTorrent 2.0
The problem:
You are using uTorrent to download media through an RSS feed. The problem is the feed has items in formats you either don’t want or don’t care about. For example, maybe you want to download only items in 720p MKV. Maybe you want to avoid these.
The solution:
In uTorrent 2.0, once you have a feed saved, you can create a filter by going to Options->RSS Downloader. This allows you to set criteria for matching or not matching. In my example, it is simply set to avoid anything that has 720p or mkv in its filename. I reset the statistics for my feed, and there it was: it attempted to download everything except for whatever media was marked as either mkv or 720p.
Why is this cool?
If you have a broadband cap, like the 250GB in my Comcrap account, you don’t want to set something as an automatic download unless you are sure it is for something that you want. If you go to bed and overnight your RSS downloader picks up a few gigs worth of crap that you don’t want, that went to waste. At least this makes sure that when left in unattended mode, uTorrent will only download the things that you are expecting it to.
