If you have ANY password that is a word that can be looked up in a dictionary, you need to change your password right now. Don’t start making up excuses about how dumb you are or how bad your memory is, if you prize your accounts, you need to get these passwords changed ASAP.

A friend of mine lost a 3+ year old Google account. All of her emails were there, and most of her work was in Google Docs. So far Google hasn’t done jack shit to help her, since the recovery process is automated and very flawed.

Your password cannot be a real word that can be found in a dictionary. Don’t bother getting cute replacing one letter with a number, that won’t work either. What you really want is a password that is as long as you can dare to memorize, and make it a combination of letters and numbers, and hopefully with mixed case.

The inconvenience of remembering a hard password and having to type it is nothing when compared with the nightmare of losing a priceless account.

Why can’t you use words that can be looked up in a dictionary? Because there is something called a dictionary attack. With a dictionary attack, the miscreant will attempt to check your password against a list of a few thousand common words. Names, birthdays, etc. are really bad because they are easy to check in bulk. This is why you want to use something with numbers mixed-in, and with different capitalization, which will render this dictionary attack harmless.

You are allowed three computers per Comcast account.

If you screw this up, good luck to you because Comcast has yet to train their first tier tech support checklist readers (this is no reflection on how nice or else these first tier workers are, it is a fact that they are basically checklist readers) on how to handle authentication issues.

In my case, my machine simply kept insisting that it was authorized, and it wasn’t. After wasting time with Comcast tech support, I started digging around for preference files and what else, and noticed a folder in C:\ProgramData that looked odd. After deleting it and reinstalling, I was able to re-authenticate.

Here’s the question:

Why the fuck can’t I de-authenticate through the Adobe AIR applet? I mean, how hard is this? It’s an object call, whoever had the project open would had needed an extra hour to implement this feature! This is going to cost countless hours in customer service calls because some dumbass didn’t see the need to add one more god damn button to a tiny applet. It’s just ridiculous.

As I write this, the piece of shit ate my authorization AGAIN.
