Archive for October, 2009Puerto Rico lawmakers OK strict drunk driving lawSaturday, October 31st, 2009Puerto Rico lawmakers OK strict drunk driving law: This is political hypocrisy at its worst. Puerto Rico’s drinking age is 18 instead of 21. Do you know why? Legend has it that there’s federal highway money tied to the 21-year drinking limit. If you don’t set drinking age to at least 21, your state misses out of these highway funds. When it was Puerto Rico’s turn, they compared the loss of highway funds against the loss of tax revenue from the alcohol sales. Puerto Rico is a world leader in the production of rum and other distilled spirits, and a lot of that is consumed locally. The powers that be figured out that they could collect more in alcohol taxes by keeping the drinking age to 18 than by collecting the additional highway funds by setting it at 21. This is of course a legend, a conspiracy theory. Who would make such a cold blooded decision based simply on revenue? That 0.02 BAC limit is going to last about as long as the first politician is arrested with a DWI. Then it will be quietly set back to 0.08. Assholes. Bizarro is (c) Dan Piraro. This comic is two years old and still perfectly illustrates my frustration with this whole “costume day” crap. Happy ‘costume’ daySaturday, October 31st, 2009ARE YOU FRICKIN KIDDING ME? What the hell is wrong with people? Can’t they leave the kids alone to have some fun without pissing all over it in the spirit of political correctness? Earlier today I read about a gentleman that protested because a Halloween display looked a bit too much like a lynching. He was right, that’s the kind of obvious thing that pretty much everyone notices and knows can be misunderstood. Did he condemn Halloween as a whole? Of course not, he simply pinpointed the one thing he saw wrong. Good for him. But Halloween itself? What the hell? Are you telling me that you can’t allow your child, who is the innocent party here, to dress up for an hour or three and goof around? You actually have to look into a hidden, dark meaning that simply isn’t there? GROW THE FUCK UP! What’s next? Are we going to outlaw the 4th of July to avoid offending the British? Are we going to finally cave in and kill St. Valentine’s Day too because it offends the lonely and unattached? How long before Christmas is turned into the Optional Holiday of the Winter Solstice and it is removed from the list of Federal holidays? karlaakins: hummingburger: (via overshadowed) THIS is the…Saturday, October 31st, 2009

And Call of Duty was awesome too, so awesome that even *I* played it online (everyone that knows me is well aware that I am not a fan of multi player gaming). “The House health care bill unveiled Thursday clocks in at 1,990 pages and about 400,000 words. It is a steep but short climb but probably faster on foot (at least from our apartment) than if we tried to drive around the back. Our street was named after one of the most famous owners of the castle, Franz Von Sickingen. |
